The mentality of an addict

Two or three years ago, I got mixed up with drugs. Meth, speed, pot. It was a huge hurdle to overcome completely, but I'm not really tempted now to try anything like that again. I always was one for binges though. I think that this is a clear-cut line between use and abuse.

My problem is that now, that same mentality remains in me. I'm getting that with caffeine, and sports drinks and whatnot. It sounds silly, I know, but it's like I'm just got that mind-set, still. I still smoke cigarettes too which is something I could never kick.

The good news - I do training with the army every week - running a LOT and doing millions of push-ups and sit-ups, after which I feel clear-headed and good. It's not like I don't understand the value of that, but it comes and goes, all too often...I'm taking suggestions/feedback.

Addictions are hard to over come. Even coke cola is an addiction as are sweets and porn (although I honetly think that one is not a problem at all).
Just slowly reduce the amount that you do those unwanted addictions and then sooner or later it will almost all be gone. But I do not believe it will even be entirely gone.

i would suggest u got some proffessional counseling for it because you seem to know that the problem is, like u understand how you think, so maybe with some help you could change those thought patterns

I think you hit the nail on the head there. In my opinion though, porn can be a problem when you're using up heaps of bandwidth and whatnot. Anyway...

You're right that I need to cut down, if not cut these things out entirely. It's just... (Can't really finish that sentence).

Hey, thanks for that. Maybe that's a good idea. It's just that it seems so strange. You are right though.

lol i know way me to suggest the obvious, but ur in a strong position to do something about it because clealry it bothers you and you realise this is an issue for you, and you seem to have desire for change, and in psychological behavoir change your at an important step, i for getthe terms tho. Basically what you have to do now is gather as much knowledge and support as you can in order to help you make the change, so maybe read about addictions and how ppl get over them, differnt methods etc, and get friend and family to help you if u dont think that u want to see a professional.
summary: you are in a good place to make changes and u should act as soon as u can to make the most of the posible motivation u have atm.

Interesting comparison, although not so dissimilar from what I'm describing. Addiction can be as much in the mind as it is in the blood, I believe.
