First the iPhone, then the iPod Touch, now the Macbook Air. Apple is like a fourteen year old girl, always trying to be thinner and thinner. $1799 for that crock of shit? Pur-leez. Maybe if it was a beastly laptop, but no. 1.6GHz processor. My desktop is older than god and it's processor is faster than that (AMD, too). 2GB of RAM is decent. Kind of a waste, considering you'll have all that RAM, yet still be held back by the epic processor. Oh well. Photoshop CS3 will have fun on it, I'm sure. If you can get it installed without an optical drive, that is, since the MBA doesn't have one. And an 80GB hard drive? That's like a four-inch penis these days, everyone wants bigger. Let's not forget the $129, non user-replaceable battery. Instant flaccid. You might now say "Oh, they'll just replace it for free," but when that thing dies and you have to wait for a replacement, you're going to pissed, not to mention without your laptop for at least a few days.

Oh, but the top version, costs twice as much! All for an extra .2GHz on the CPU clock speed (trust me, on the MBA you'll need every one you can get) and a smaller (64GB) solid state drive. But it's the world's thinnest laptop, right? So that's cool.

EDIT: Oh yeah. One USB port. So you can install Linux.

Clearly its not aimed at you. Its aimed at business people and those that need an ultra-portable laptop to carry with them to do light work.  This is NOT for doing photoshop work.

I guess very-portable isn't good enough anymore, eh.

You are probably incorrect on the processor speed, clock speed is far from the only factor in CPU speed, my Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz processor would probably be faster than a Pentium D 3.0 GHz, and consume less power and produce less heat as well.

Besides, with the Macbook Air, you are not paying for speed, you are paying for low power consumption and low weight. If you want that, then the Macbook Air is right for you, if you want something more powerful and do not mind the added weight, then it is not.

Actually Malkariss there is 2 usb btw. Plus mac air i think this is a bullshit trend to just attract people who thinks apple's products are better than the rest. People do me a favor don't buy it unless you know exactly what you are getting for the price and what is right.

Yes, dual-core processors by nature run faster than most single-cores. Also, you missed the point of this thread, that being that Apple is putting out a highly-crippled product at premium price. There are faster, cheaper laptops out there with real Firewire ports and optical drives and everything, yet only a little bit larger. Can you name one situation where an extra half-inch will make a huge impact on portability? I can't either.

Rofl, yeah, I've come to despise Macs.  They advertise as being "hip" and "cool", and then sell their machines, which are destroyed in both price and speed by competitors such as HP, Sony, Toshiba, etc.  And yet people still buy them?  It's ridiculous.  And, lmao, if I was going to buy an "ultra-portable" machine, I wouldn't want one that is tiny and, while in the line of duty of the "ultra-portable", probably would end up getting snapped in half.  I'd rather pay the same amount for one that is small, with the same specs, and has a shell of titanium (now that's SAFE portability).

Slightly off-topic, but I hate it when people say that Macs are sexy. Is it just me, or do they look insanely simple to anyone else?

Now THAT is a sexy laptop. Plus you can choose the colour.

Oh wow.  I checked it out for myself (I'm not one to follow the failurisms of Mac very often) and saw "Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor with 144MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory".

Oh, awesome.  As long as I'm a business man looking for an "ultra portable" laptop, who does nothing but check email and do spreadsheets while on the run, it'll be perfect!  But wait... I believe there are other things capable of doing that... yes, I believe they are called cell phones.  And they cost, oh, say, $1500 less.  And that's being awefully generous.  So now I have a laptop that can do really basic tasks and nothing else.  BUT IT'S THIN, RIGHT?!?!?!

I'll stick with my laptop, thank-you very much.  Much faster, lasts just an hour less than their 5 hour claim, and -- oh, look at that, I got it for free.  GG Mac.
