Apple.com is getting so much traffic right now that it is slow to respond, or does not load correctly.

I'm just pissed that Apple charge an equivalent of $2400 for the MBA. It's so thin and sleek, and I'd love one, but that's near the price of a UK MacBook Pro. Even my Educational discount only gets me £80 off.

What is VAT now? I suspect that VAT is mostly to blame.

it's still 17.5%, and I suppose that is it, but even then, the prices are still too steep. IMO, anyway, even the MBP is theoretically closer to my reach than the MBA, and it has a ton of other features, albeit they really aren't marketed towards the same area. MBA is ultra-portable after all.

Someone is getting fired over underestimating the traffic on apple's website today. That's my opinion.

I seriously doubt it, Apple Store over here was actually pretty fast during this year's keynote. it usually takes Apple a few hours to do the UK store and UK website, but this year it was nearly-instant. Much faster than previous years.

The US website was down and not responding for 25 minutes after the keynote. I'm not talking about the "We'll be back soon" note, I'm talking about it being down.

I am SO excited about the GPS capability of my iPhone now. IMO, that was the only feather that made all other smart phones slightly better (that they had GPS capabilies, but it was an extra fee per month...I get it for FREEE). Take that Blackberry! :P

The Air isn't too impressive IMO. The fact that it's so thin is impressive, yes. The 5 hours battery is expected because of the special CPU used (which, btw, will be used in other notebook after awhile, Apple just managed to beg Intel into getting it early). That's about it. The price, as usual, is too high for what you're getting compared to other not quite as thing but still pretty slim competitors. 1GB of RAM is pretty low even for such a slim notebook. The thing's max altitude outside a plane is 10,000ft- My guess is they used a cheap crappy accelerometer or something. If you live up in the mountains, too bad for you unless it's nice big valley (real mountains, not the hills they call the Appalachians and such). Removal of the disk drive is understandable, what isn't is that you have to get it extra, as usual, significantly overpriced. Moreover, the recovery disks they give you are on CD/DVDs. Real funny Apple, I'm sure you're customers will be thrilled to learn they have to buy the disk drive anyways if anything goes wrong. 80GB drive is understandable for the slimness, but competitors with notebooks that are very similar (in some cases lighter even if thicker) *all* have larger drives... Another corner cutting tactic based on making it thin instead of functional/lightweight/efficient. Non user-replaceable battery is the killer though. The primary demographic this is aimed at is almost certainly travelers. Unfortunately, long as 5 hours is, most travelers that need longer battery life almost always carry at least two batteries. With the MBA, if you *ever* need more than 5 hours on a charge, or don't have the time to fully charge it inbetween... you're fucked. Unlike every other lightweight notebook out there. Nice one, Apple. Really, how important is it to be that slim? It's like they cut corners to make it slim, rather than efficient and lightweight. I mean, let's face it- the most important things for an ultra-portable yet decent notebook are, in order, efficiency, weight, and THEN size. Apple seems to have followed the reverse.
