That's odd. Sounds far more like a bug than a feature, though you might want to check through the options / preferences anyway just to see if there are any post-compilation options. Might also be a good idea to mention the problem to your teacher; s/he might have seen it before / have a solution.
And on the topic of using another IDE at home.. it is a valid suggestion, in my opinion.. but largely dependent on just how ancient Turbo C++ 4.5 is (I have no idea).
For example, my highschool used an old version of VS.

Try that on the more current versions and it'll fail.
Try the current method on a sufficiently old version and it will, too.
