I'm looking into different laptops for college right now. I was planning on getting a pc, but I've heard that macs have a better/safer system on it. What do you think?

Macs are more for like, directors, musicians, shit like that. I mean, there's more programs for Macs for that sorta stuff. But if you just want something simple, I suggest a pc.

The truth is choosing between Windows and a Mac is like choosing between two evils.  The only solution is to go linux but even that has its downsides.  Windows is probably the best but it still has a lot of pitfalls.

It's a fallacy to assume that just because you have a mac, you'll automatically be virus free. As macs become omre mainstream, you'll find that the number of viruses made for them also increase.

Macs are good for the arty/muso types - they do have more programs and crap suited towards the creative stuff. But if you're on a budget or you'll be lugging it around, better get a generic laptop that will be compatible with mostly everything else. PCs function just fine as long as you're careful around the net and update your virus checker regularly. Get the latest bug fixes and all of that - it should suffice.

Nah I'd say it's because Macs are more pricey than PCs. Linux is the safest, but it isn't quite as up there with the software and can be finicky. Ubuntu's alright I guess - it's the most n00b-friendly - but still, I only use it for surfing the web (the whole virus issue).

How about dual-booting? Have Windows for all your work and use Linux when accessing the web.

Was that due to problems with the software itself, or were you simply unused to the user interface? Macs aren't so bad, but I find it easier to navigate on a PC.
