macs, no worry about virus.
All that says is that macs can't even get negative attention. However there are a few viruses wandering around infecting macs. The truth is choosing between Windows and a Mac is like choosing between two evils. The only solution is to go linux but even that has its downsides. Windows is probably the best but it still has a lot of pitfalls.
Nah I'd say it's because Macs are more pricey than PCs. Linux is the safest, but it isn't quite as up there with the software and can be finicky. Ubuntu's alright I guess - it's the most n00b-friendly - but still, I only use it for surfing the web (the whole virus issue). How about dual-booting? Have Windows for all your work and use Linux when accessing the web.
the dual thing can work, i thought about doin it wen i built my current system. requires two hard drives tho. one with linux one wit xp and u can choose which one to use for bootup
You don't need two harddrives, you require two partitions, which is fairly easy to do.

I'm looking into different laptops for college right now. I was planning on getting a pc, but I've heard that macs have a better/safer system on it. What do you think?
A PC will work just fine, and is a lot a cheaper to boot.

Actually, yes I do. It's the people who tried out macs, and didn't like them, and went back.

I think that's just because they tried it for a little while and it was to different for them and they never let themselves get used to it.

nothing is so easy to use that it takes no time to learn. what I'm saying is that you have to use it for like a week. But according to the adverts and what people say its such an easy to use design and all so intuitive that surly you don't need time to get used to it....
