Is community college really that bad?

Today was my 2nd day at a community college, I'm actually pretty young to be in a college environment, I'm not supposed to be in college for another year or two. I used to be a pretty average student in school. Then I got addicted to World of Warcraft (Yes, It's dumb I know, but I have close to 130 days logged in the game) and it fucked high school up real bad for me I pretty much threw away most of my high school career. I  failed tons of classes.. Then I finally quit playing and I saw what it did to my life academically and I was devastated. So I talked to my High School counselor and he told me about a program at a local community college where I can earn an AA degree all for free, but I had to drop out of high school. I thought this was the opportunity of a life time, a second chance at life and I wouldn't be working as a gas station clerk or at the local fast food drive through for the rest of my life.

So I decided to go with that, and I went through all the interviews and paperwork and crap and I eventually got in and started yesterday. And I feel really bad.. I mean if I wouldn't have gone and got all fuckin' addicted to that stupid game I could be going to a University or something. I really don't have much to be proud of in my life but not being your average everyday idiot is something I'm kind of proud of, I think I'm actually rather smart and so did alot of my teachers. I just didn't do the work because I was always playing that god damn game. And now I am fuckin trying my hardest to do something with my life and make something of my self but all I'm hearing from people is "LOLZ U HAV TO GO TO TEH TARD COLLEGE LULZ" I mean, is it really that bad? Am I going to be able to get a job when I grow older? I have been trying so hard and been studying my ass off in the weeks up until my first day there and all I hear from people is how terrible it is there and telling me I won't be able to get a job with the words "community college" on paper. Is it really that bad you guys? it actually kind of hurts when people tell me that I'm going to the "Short-Bus College"

that's ridiculous. you can still transfer to a university as soon as you get your A.A. and get as advanced of a degree that you want. obviously they need to be going to a short-bus college if they feel the need to insult you based on your situation. ignore them, and move on with your life. two more years and you can start at a university

NO, it absolutely is not that bad. It's better than having " HIGH SCHOOL DROP-OUT " on paper. Imagine your future with that and study hard.

I think it's kinda not so good personally.  At college you want to get your Bach. Degree, masters, etc.  A bachelor's degree typically looks the best.  This doesn't mean that you can't get a decent job somewhere though.  It just means your chances of landing that job are smaller.  Not the END of the world, but try to keep a chin up I guess.

not at all. You can hopefully transfer but just be thankful for the opportunity of college. Just going to college and getting some degree will put you in an office job. Any degree will help you get a job right now so yeah community college is in the way.

I'm going to community college next year because of money issues, grade issues and I have to be working while going to college. I'm going to transfer out and hopefully get a good job later in life.

I'm at one of the more liberal arts public colleges right now, and I want to be a teacher. I've found that although I like the class structure, the local community college actually has 90% MORE classes geared toward people wanting to be teachers.. and they are actually INTERESTING looking. So no.. community college doesn't seem that bad.

Don't let others put you down for trying to do something with your life. MANY people are lazy, don't work towards their ambitions and don't look into options to make something out of themselves. You are none of the above. You made a mistake, everyone makes mistakes. Good for you for trying to fix the results of your error, many people don't do this.

Study hard in college, look into options to advance yourself and keep going. You've already done this once, you can do it again!

I make fun of my friends in CC, but it's in jest and they know it.  The people that say these things to you either probably don't realize how seriously you take them, or are just asshats.  I don't actually look down upon them at all, getting an education is important, no matter how you do it.

It seems as if more and more people are going to community colleges these days. Well, at least where I live. I currently attend one, and it is saving me a LOT of money. So far, I have paid nothing for my first year here. Government grants and scholarships have covered my entire tuition, and books. Plus, I'm able to live at home with my parents (I'm 19, graduated from high school in 2007) so I'm saving thousands of dollars that way, as well. Plus I'm able to work full-time and attend college full-time, as it's very flexible, so things are made even easier financially - and I have that sense of accomplishment by paying my own bills, becoming independent, and gaining work experience.

Good for you that you're picking things up and going to college at all. You can transfer after you get your AA, and no one will ever know the difference.
