Though the window was foggy she could still see outside when she pressed her hand to the glass and swiveled her hand in a circle to clear a less foggy space on the glass. There was someone out there which frightened her since she hadn't heard anyone approach. And usually the dogs barked if anyone did. That's what really spooked her. But it was dark, it could have been her imagination. So she decided to look again when the light was better-when lightning struck. The figure was apparent in the lightning flash this time and it was closer to the house. When lightning struck again only two seconds later the figure was twenty feet closer to the house. How had it moved twenty feet in two seconds? Impossible. She had the feeling this was no normal person. Whatever it was it was dressed in a floor length black robe and didn't seem to have a face. Where a face should have been there was only emptiness. Suddenly she heard a rap on the glass, then a long, streaky sounding scratch like nails on chalkboard. She called for the dogs. They did not come. And the thing was getting closer. She could hear the doorknob turning as if someone was twisting it from the other side. And she hadn't remembered to lock the door.
