i run lotza beta software which constantly crashes, but its worth it

Oddly, i've ran alot of 'beta' and prerelease software as well. Just about always on Linux and OS X.

On Linux i've ran prerelease and Beta kernels quite a bit, and i'll say that they crash ALOT less than Windows Beta releases, or any programs on Windows for that matter.

well, on my xp pro machine it needs a reboot about every week, although on a bad day it can need a few in an hour...

That said, i have managed to crash every OS i have ever used, which as you can see from this post is quite a few

http://www.golivewire.com/forums/topic.cgi?topic=760&start=140#postNumber141

Linux is good, but not perfect...it doesn’t take me long to get it to hang.

What people forget is that they cant really compare apples to a PC. The main reason a PC crashes is due to hardware compatibility, drivers incompatibility, and software incompatibilities. When you look at it...i think PC's do rather well, as they are an open standard, so manufactures from all over the world can make components...so there will always be problems when they don’t follow the standard properly. Also, think how much software there is for winPC's compared to Macs and Linux.....loads more..again...people cant write software for every config. When it comes to apples, they make the hardware, the OS, and most of the software...so of course it will be more reliable...cos its more compatible.

I haven't been able to crash my linux machine since I recompiled the kernel and started running fluxbox.

My uptime is currently 4 hours and 20 somewhat minustes I restart alot because I install stuff a lot, hibernate my computer at night which isn't easy to wake up from, and run a lot of stuff.  I rarely crash except for when I intentionally crash it because I'm bored, by doing things such as opening a hundred+ windows of firefox earlier I kinda froze it and lost my toolbars and window generated items

I'm pretty sure i could open a few hundred firefox tabs or windows and not crash the system at all (Protected memory systems and true multitasking are nice).

Well let me ask you this, asides from OS Manufacturer's Kernel updates (SP1, Kernel rebuilds, or major security updates), how often do you 'NEED' to reset your box? I know that when i was using windows it might not 'crash', but there would be some reason that I was like "Oh shit, it's getting slow, or this broke... time for a reset". Doesn't happen with Mac OS X too often.

I think I actually need to either reset some processes, or do something to my OS X desktop though... my mouse dissapeared (but is functional) on screen 1, but appears on screen 2 all of a sudden. Probably a permissions rebuild will do the trick.

I have crashed all OS's beyond any interupt keys.  The only way to recover from them were to kill the power to them.

Windows: most have done this
Linux: I don't even remember what I was doing
MAC: just random times where I was not using it to its full capibilities.

Is crashing defined as freezing that needs a restart?  It doesn't happen a WHOLE lot with this computer, but Windows Explorer fucks up at least once a day.  That gets on my nerves.  Must be all my StyleXP mods.

I crashed Windows 98 SE hundreds of times last summer when it was my only computer.

I can't crash Windows XP, no matter how hard I try.

Today, I crashed Mac OS 10.3.8 on my laptop for the first time.
