Once one has used them, an addiction develops.
Evidence to the contrary: me. Ergo, hypothesis is incorrect.
I assert that one cannot both be informed and rational when starting to use recreational drugs. Why? Because if one is informed, one knows all the potentially bad side effects of recreational drug use; if one is rational, one would want to avoid them as a result of cost-benefit analysis.
Cost-benefit analysis is subjective. I know many people who have taken pills, MDMA, shrooms, cocaine and so on with absolutely no side-effects other than to their wallet and the science behind these drugs supports this. In light of this, my cost-benefit analysis of these drugs is that it is OK to take them in moderation and in a safe environment.

As long as the real (as oppose to imagined) cost-benefit analysis is positive, then w/e.
Ah, so your comment that "only ignorant people use recreational drugs" is complete bullshit. I'm very glad to here it.
I'll modify my statement: "Only ignorant people use recreational drugs (minus a certain minority of them)." Doing "recreational" drugs (minus a certain minority) is like shooting yourself in the foot.
What makes you so sure it's the minority? Given that the most common behaviors with recreational drugs involve safer forms of use (ie: occasional cannabis use), as illustrated by simple usage statistics (more people have tried pot than use it occassionally than use it often than use heroin, ect.), what makes you limit your exception to a minority of users?

As though many adults would refuse to believe this, I don't think recreational drugs are bad for the mind. Some may kill brain cells, or stop them from reproducing as quickly. However, as an intellectual I take advantage of the drugs to seeing on a different mindset, a different path to different answers that you wouldn't be able to see otherwise. If you use them correctly, drugs can be the pathway to a certain enlightenment that not many other things in this world can bring on.

I've had alcohol a few times before. In all honesty, I think underage drinking is not as big of a problem as most people say. I've only been actually drunk once, but even just drinking a beer or two helps you relax and enjoy what you're doing a lot more.

Yes, I use pot every so often. I don't believe in using drugs or alcohol to ease your problems or relieve anxiety - I see soft drug use as a gateway to a different mindset and a different level of creativity. Usually, when I smoke pot, I'm working on a project or a task that requires intensity and creativity, and when I get going into a good flow with that work or whatever it is, and THEN take the drugs, I can burst through it with exceptional quality and creativity, and once the task is done, the effects of the drug are calming and help me go back into a normal state of mind, as opposed to the manic frenzy I get into while working. I think the problem with drugs starts not with a person using them, but using them as an escape instead of enhancement, and when the benefits of the drugs become outweighed by their negative effects. The first few times you use something, it's almost all pleasure and very little pain. But if you abuse them, and use them often enough, the balance starts to skew, and as time goes on with this abuse, it becomes almost all pain and very little reward. At that point, you would hope that the person would have the presence of mind to say, "Oooh! This doesn't help me any more! I'm going to stop this." And then they'd do something, but unfortunately, by that stage of addiction, I think some of that higher consciousness has been totally removed by addiction and the effects of long-term drug abuse.

No, I don't. That being said, I don't see a problem with others doing as they please. I think government prohibition of drugs is just an attempt to dehumanize people. If you can't control what goes into your body what can you really control? I also don't buy that the "drug problem" in this country actually exists. I think it was just a ploy for expansion of police powers. It also got Nancy Reagan (who deserves to live out her remaining days rotting in jail for obstruction of justice) very rich.

Lets see. I began drinking and smoking weed the summer before my Junior year (high school). When I turned 17 I tried a small dose of shrooms, I can't quite remember any of it though, I was pretty loaded already before dosing. Anyways, since I've done shrooms about 4 more times, LSD once, DXM twice. I'm pretty open to the idea of drug use. I have no interest in intentionally trying heroin, meth, crack, or harder drugs. At this point I still really want to try MDMA (X), I just haven't found an appropriate time. I would also like to try various psychedelics (DMT, Peyote, Salvia, 2C-B). I generally smoke weed more than anything else. I drink on occasion and at parties and such. I'm still in high school (senior) so its quite hard to find good times to use psychedelics.
