Sooo

How much money did you have in your account when arriving at university/college? Discounting any loans/bursaries/scholarships. So your own personal funds before the loans etc came in?

No point whores please... If this doesn't apply to you because your too young or never went / arn't going - why reply?

$750 and went to anything I absolutely needed including books, supplies, and some food. Even my first quarter tuition that I owed. So basically, I spent it all on the first day.

Around £500, give or take a bit.

I'm spending it so bloody fast it's depressing. Bursaries and loans are paying for my accommodation alone, so I need the above money plus whatever I earn from working (assuming I can get a job) to live on. I've spent £150 of that money since Wednesday. I can see problems in the near future.

Same here - I've spent £100+ on the clubs/societies and the nights out. AND its off my credit card :(

Circumstances out of my control meant I had nothing in my account on coming to university. I have spare money after accommodation so its not too bad... HOWEVER I dunno when I'm paid :(

And you know what angers me? When people get financial to pretty much cover everything, while I have to work my ass off just to buy food to live off for the week... and they're pretty much rich. That pisses me off so much. I have actually been told I'm too average to recieve most financial aid. My parents income is way below average- how does that make me "too average" to recieve financial aid? Go figure that one out.

/rant (sorry guys)

yeah, i was told that in order to receive financial aid i have to spend my entire overdraft (yay, putting me in more debt), have a child and get old. joy! (i'll probably get financial aid if i spend the overdraft, but my chances of getting it aren't as great as those with kids or oldies). they also put me in the most expensive accommodation in the university, and i come from the lowest income family, like, ever.

OH WOE.

Well I get abour £3500 a year in maintenance loan to get me through the year, paying flights, transport, course equipment, books, clothes, food, drink money, etc. I've had £1100 of it since September and I've already spent all of it, as well as probably about £300 of my Irish money from working over the summers, and am now in my overdraft by about £100. I don't really know where it all goes to...

I am ALL the way through my overdraft. It's painful I know.

I get some more of the loan this month, but most of that is for accommodation. But I kinda spent it because I knew I could as the scholarship will pay it off, and I did not fritter it away on stupid things. Lot of it went on stuff like my new laptop for work.

I had about $5,600 starting college.  I also had a whole bunch of scholarships to help me get through the first two semesters.  I got a part-time job during my first semester, and I got a full-time job as a CoOp over the summer.

If you can ever do CoOp or a paid internship, it is an awesome way to earn money.  I will come out of college with more money than I had going in.  I make almost $15.00 an hour working 40 hours a week during my work terms.

But yes... college is expensive and it sucks.  I'm just glad/fortunate that I can afford it.
