Alright, so new and newer support leaders are coming in. They are answering eHelps that are not quite up to par with what the system is looking for. Now that we have this new system, we need to explain certain things about being a support leader.

We can call it the support leader handbook. It can be as short as a sticky, but I really think it would help out. Explain what to do in a "Borderline" post, etc.

What do you think?

I think it would probably be a good idea.

Back when we first got the feature to hide posts I thought somewhere in the application you should have had to take a test on if a post should be hidden or not, but eh, what do I know.

I think it's something to look into, imo. I can't see what bad it would bring.

We have an Etiquette Guideline, so why not?

we can't create a 'book' telling people how to reply, as obviously everyone replies differently to topics and e-helps, which is actually something that makes it more helpful and interesting.

However, why don't we all come up with idea's for some mutually agreed guidelines, specific to SL's only.  They could include something like:

  • All of my replies in e-help will be done to the best of my ability, and I understand that poor replies may effect my SL status
  • Any conduct on my SL account which is proved to be contrary to this site will potentially lead to my demotion
  • SL's are here to provide a positive and supportive ethic to the site, and I agree to be a part of this team to the best of my ability
  • I understand I may only hold one account at SL status at any given time
  • Hiding posts is a level of trust given to me as a SL, and I will never abuse this facility

Not a total list, and you don't have to use them, but you get the picture.

The guidelines shouldn't really written by David, they could be created by Support Leaders themselves, and then we're creating our own framework and standards that we agree to stick to

okay, my idea for SL Guidelines
Support Leaders should consistently satisy the following:
  • Follow all universal guidelines and the Moderator Code of Conduct.
  • Provide persistent support in the forums.
  • Provide eHelp replies that are considerate, meaningful, thorough, and go far above and beyond the supportiveness expected from members.
  • Strive to maintain and improve the support on the website.
  • Conduct themselves in a friendly, trustworthy, and respectable manner.
  • Protect the anonymity of members when revealed to them.
  • Use any and all moderation powers bestowed upon them solely for the benefit of the website.
  • Act to the best of their knowledge and understanding of the website and its policies, keep an open mind, and work to expand that knowledge and understanding.

It sounds like a nice idea to me. Perhaps, once it's made, a link to it could be sent out when anyone is promoted to support leader.

I'd be willing to help in any way, if you want me to.

I like this. The peer listener handbook is largely irrelevant, because most of it's about support IRL, not over the internet (it's all about eye contact and stuff). And in ehelp, you often don't actually talk to the member, you just send them a response.

Maybe it could be a sticky in the forum?

What if we compiled some questions that, when answering an eHelp, would be useful in broadening your reply to create one what is more supportive and helpful?
