They can use Livewire as they want, and if people like the Fresh Topics, then they can keep it on. Everyone gets what they want. FP
They only like it because they don't realize what it's done to them. Have you people been frequenters of any other forum?
I use a forum called TOTSE regularly. I know what you mean. The bonus is, it makes moderation easy. FP

actually i like the fresh topics bar because when I first signed up for lw i was wondering why I got so many answers in the first minute and then i realized there was a fresh topics bar
