Three words, YOUR A DUMBASS.

And do you think a Forester is a boy racer car? Because its FAR from.

Subaru's are expensive for a few reasons.
-Boxer engine, believe it or not Subaru and Porsche are the two makes that use the Horizontally Opposed (Boxer) engine, and its a technology that can be quite pricey.
-Symmetrical All Wheel Drive. EVERY subaru is equipped with AWD,
-Japanese. Not all of their cars are made in Japan, however the Impreza and I believe even the legacy are. The 08's+ are finally assembled in Washington State, however the components are made in Japan. The B9 Tribeca is made in Indiana however.
-Small Company. Small company with somewhat limited production numbers drive subaru's prices up.
-Standard and optional features. You'll pay a premium for some features, but the quality is extremely high.

I could go on, but those are only some of the reasons.

edit: Boy racer? More or less Rally Car in a box

Yep, hinshawwrx is about 95% right.
-Boxer engine is by far the best design.. it's PERFECTLY balanced, hence why they're so smooth without any type of counter-balance or anything, but they're wide and expensive, so now they're limited to only Porsche and Subaru.
-Yep All-wheel-drive is expensive
-I do have to correct on where their cars are made.. until last year all US-spec subaru were made in Indiana except for the Impreza. But now every US-spec subaru is made in Indiana.
-Yah small company I guess.
-I think something that also increases their price is the materials they use, they pretty stiff materials but lightweight.. also they have a ton of safety equipment. Including 8 layers of steel plus 1 steel bar in the b-pillars.. you can't cut that with "the jaws of life"

I don't think they're that much pricey, ok.. they usually cost about $3000 more than the competition, but you get that extra steel, All-wheel-drive, a boxer engine, and a very well balanced and robust car.
Hence why my next car is gonna be another Subbie

The price gap widens substantially out of the US, however.

I know.. but also some other countries take subaru more seriously. Believe it or not where I grew up, having a subaru was a luxury, not because they're luxurious (they're not), but because gas there is like $6 a gallon and people make less money. So having a heavier, more gas-guzzling, pricier car is looked up to... 4-wheel-drive is a luxury.
Most people drive 1.6L Sentras, and diesel Corollas.

Gonzalo, have you looked at a 2008 Impreza?

Not saying wiki is always right, but http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impreza

Final assembly is done on the west coast. 99% sure.

edit: http://cars.about.com/od/subaru/fr/jf_08wrx_2.htm

Where built: 100% of content from Japan/Final assembly in Vancouver, WA

and owned
