I believe it should be changed, only because in public schools, or at least the ones I've attended, relious beliefs were strictly kept out of the system.

I thought they took that part out...?
I think it depends on the state...because I know here they still use that phrase.

I stopped saying the pledge in 7th grade, in my county you're suppose to say it or at least stand respectfully but a district court ruled that it was an unconstitutional law. One of my teachers "pat" me on the back to get me to stand up, yelling at how disrespectful and unpatriotic I am. Short history: ...the addition of the words "under God," by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954, during the "religious revival" of the 1950s. It is unclear where the idea was initiated, but the bill introduced in 1953 proposing the alteration didn't take off until formally endorsed by Rev. George M. Docherty, the pastor of the church attended by Eisenhower. After signing the bill on June 14, 1954, President Eisenhower said, "From this day forward, the millions of our school children will daily proclaim in every city and town, every village and rural schoolhouse, the dedication of our Nation and our people to the Almighty."
