Wow.... On a subaru you can disengage the AWD by pulling a fuse, however I believe it disables only the rear. (can't remember off the top of my head) and even doing so will not allow you to "drift" "drifting" is done on sticky pavement with slicks, an AWD car doesn't drift. It does during rally competitions slide through corners because of loose gravel, soil, mud, snow, ice, etc etc etc. As to the main reason WHY you can't drift an AWD car, its because the strain on the driveline would be incredible. You have power going to all 4 wheels on the Subaru, sliding around on this would cause axels to snap, the energy would also shear gears and destroy the rear end. Its simply stupid.
