I mean, obviously there are self harmer's out there that just take it to the EXTREME and carve themselves to pieces and have to go to hospital and stuff like that... but couldn't self harm in small doses be acceptable??

I mean, if the self harmer wasn't unhappy about it, if it provided the harmer with away to cope, why should we scrutinize it??

Because it isn't socially acceptable or what??

What actually IS wrong with self harming if it isn't making you unhappy??

um because self harming leads to worse self harming which leads to suicide? And that has been proven. No one just nicks themselves forever then gives up.. they get progressively worse.
Don't encourage self harming. Isn't it better to cope in healthier ways than thinking it's ok to hurt yourself?

And, I think it's just unacceptable, because of people's ignorance. They push people too far, and then wonder why people SH or even try and overdose.

There are adverts about excessive drinking and smoking, so why not depression?

Personally, I think there needs to be better promotion when it comes to finding counsellors too. Where I live, they are impossible to trace.

Also, as a nation we need to be more focused on the fact that depression does happen, and need to find solutions - and fast!

because i stopped being able to stand looking at my boyfriend and seeing the absolute devastation i caused by that particular form of self-abuse. eventually, it got to the point where i just couldn't cut anymore, because i'd just start thinking about him.
he doesn't know about the drugs, though, so i haven't been able to quit that.
