last night my boyfriends laptop randomly turned off on him, and hes tried to turn it bacc on after it cooled off but all it does is show that the light on the laptop is on, but nothing comes up on the screen or anything.. his laptop is only about a year and a half old, i think it might have to do with the fact that he rarely ever turns it off, any suggestions on how to fix it or if it is even fixable at all..?

He needs a new display peice, or the light is broken. Just take it to a computer technician.

That could be a number of things.  If the laptop is still under warranty, you should check the laptop company website for info about repairs.

Also, keeping computers on all the time makes them last longer.  Things wear out mostly when you turn it on and off.

If the computer is properly cooled, heat isn't a problem.  Was this laptop getting very hot?

Could be.  If the laptop has a regular monitor port, you could try plugging the laptop into a regular monitor to see if that works.  If it doesn't, then it's probably not the display.  It could be a problem with the bios or video card, or some other problem like bad memory, a motherboard problem, or if the laptop got really hot, a burnt out processor.  LCD screens do have a little fluorescent light bulb in them, but I've never seen one burn out suddenly--it's usually a gradual darkening/yellowing over time.
