Not by much. But if the person can't shift worth a damn then automatic as faster. Also, many drag cars are automatic just because they do shift faster.
But cars like the RX-8 have a bigger difference. They gave the manual version more horsepower than the automatic version.
If we are going to be damned lets be damned for what we really are.

The manual transmission in the Jetta I drive is almost a full second quicker to 60mph and in 1/4 mile drags than the automatic transmission in the same car.
However, some automatic transmission cars are quicker than their manual counterparts. For example, the Mk5 GTI / GLI 2.0T with the dual clutch DSG.
Technology sure does make a difference, and so does the car. :)

Why waste a PM instead of answering the question here? Or do you only do clean up for said shop? LOL
And manual vs. automatic is different from every car. Not every car is the same. SHOCKER I KNOW

It mostly depends on the driver. If you're quick at gear changes then often a manual would be better. Unless you have an automatic which can change gear in less than half a second, in which case you'd need to buy something along the lines of a Lambo or a Ferrari. I suppose weight could come into it but it's not a big difference really.

It depends far more on the car then the driver. And even so the most important factors are gear ratios and for the automatic line pressures

It depends.
Some new "autos" can be faster than manuals.
But usually a manual can have the same 0-60 as an automatic, or in some cases.. a huge difference of up to 2 seconds faster for the manual.
