gawd... right at the end of the day you want to meet him right, why not?! Just don't be stupid about it. Meet him in a public place, somewhere that's neutral for both of you. I mean, guys have been killed by girls they met on the net, its just not as common, so maybe he's just as scared of you. Although its a neutral place, make it somewhere you know well so if he does start to get aggresive etc then you can get out of the situation easily.
