What happened to your other post?

It's not that one is better than the other... they're two different things which serve a multitude of different purposes.

If you're trying to put together a huge dynamic website with a bunch of different things, a cms will make it a lot easier for you, the webmaster, to do.  If you're trying to have a forum-based community with a few extra things incorporated in, phpbb, or software like phpbb, would be best fit for you.  It all depends on what you have planned.  If you don't have anything planned yet...make plans before deciding one way or the other.

what would be an example of a "huge dynamic website with a bunch of different things" for CMS?

and what would be those "few extra things" (example) for PHPBB?

and what other post are you talking about?

Sorry, I saw another post very similar to yours that dissappeared a few minutes before you posted this one.

Anywho's, here's an example of a huge dynamic website with a bunch of different things: http://www.cipro.ca/ (Just found one randomly).  This site doesn't even use the forums that comes with the cms they're using because it's a low-key part of the site itself.
Here's an example of a "few extra things": http://www.animemusicvideos.org/ - This site is completely based off of their forums.  The login/registration are all powered by the phpbb forums, the news page might be done manually with html or some other script(s), and they built the little psuedo-site on top of the forums without a whole system in place.

It's not a clear cut distinction at all... you can play around with it and with time your expertise will let you know what's appropriate.

tahanks for the links. the phpbb one looks better/simpler. is there any way to have that plus that "bunch of different things"? would it make it harder if it were done like that.

Sure, but you'd probably have to code it yourself.

You'll have to do some manipulation either way... but if you add more to it, you'll likely have to code it, or use some pre-written scripts.
