I'm all for allowing it in every forum but serious forums.
But it'll never be that way. Encouraging harm will always be against the rules, even in forums it shouldn't be.

Not so sure I'd agree with allowing people to tell others to go kill themselves outright with no consequence in non-support forums, however, I do think it should be okay to say "if you believe this, you should be shot" or something more indirect like that. The latter, when you look at its usual context, isn't even encouraging harm so much as it is just calling somebody a fool.

I tend to agree, although the point raised about people who could be near to killing themselves really doing so is of concern.
Still, I don't consider people telling others to kill themselves to be an automatic ban, not even an automatic formal warning. The right response to it depends on the context it is in. But currently I get the feeling that at least something has to be done about it in all cases.
If room can be found for me to see a post telling someone to kill themselves in jest and not delete it, then that is all good.

This tends to be my stance on a lot of things like this: If you are stupid enough to take into consideration what people you have never met before on a website (IE: Telling someone to DIAF, jump off a cliff etc) then you deserve everything that is coming to you.
I mean come on, do you seriously think a kiddie is going to go look for a fire to die in? Do you think that a kiddie is going to go scouring the neighborhood for something to go jump off of? To be even considering such a thing means that you're beyond help, personally speaking.
