I am looking for some advice on a situation of mine...from an RA or someone who is like a Resident Advisor in the dorms at their college.

Please respond or PM me...It's pretty important.  Thanks

"Try to balance being a university representative and a peer. Too many RA's either patrol the halls like a Nazi or --on the other side of things--ignore freshman or equally immature upperclassman running rampant (often literally) down the halls. There has to be a happy medium there somewhere."

"One of my best friends was an RA on my floor my first year. If there's one thing I learned from her it's that you need to actually be at least on friendly terms with the people on your floor/in your area. Otherwise, they can make your life a living hell. Although, you also need to let them know that you can/will write them up if they do something really bad."

What is it you need, hon? Information on RA rules? RA Regulations? How to handle Resident-to-RA Pressure? I was an RA. What would you like to know? My best advice to you: Do not put yourself above your residents. While you may be expected to report a straggler (someone in the halls past the set time), you are on the same level as them. You are a resident, just like them. Just because you are an RA does not make you a Queen or King. Try to look at them as your friends, and family. Treat them as you would like to be treated. Ignore the above poster. DO try to be on friendly terms with the people on your floor or area. Ignore the above poster. If there is someone breaking the rules, whether they be a Freshman, or an immature upperclassmen running rampan down the halls, report them. It is in your contract to do so. You expect your residents to follow the rules, and they expect you to do the same.

Wow, yea, I could not have said it better.

I'm willing to offer to try to help (I was an RA as well), but since I have no idea what you're having an issue with I don't know if I'd be able to help.

So when you're happy (Hurray!), or sad (Aw!),
Or frightened (Eeek!), or mad (Rats!)
An interjection starts a sentence right.
