There was a poll done in several high schools in north of south korea, i cant rmember which. the question was where did the english language originate; 80% thought it originated from the USA

Technically you are correct although Americans do have different slang than other english speaking counties as well as different spellings of words for example color and colour. So this can be argued.

most countries learn "american english", i know my exchnage partner in germany does. They even go through some of america's history in their English class. They know nothing about England or Great Briton.
