Don't bring a gun or any other weapon for several reasons:

1) Never, ever bring, or pull out a weapon unless you are willing to  use it to the fullest capacity. That means shooting him.
2) Bringing a weapon makes you an active participant, instead of a passive one. This is important in court.
3) A weapon can easily be turned against you.
4) If someone calls the cops, you will have a lethal weapon that I doubt you should legally have. Won't turn out well.

Just call the cops, and tell your family. Then simply look out. Or you could stay home. Just do what the police tell you to do. This is a very serious threat from a disturbed person. They should take it fairly seriously.
