So, i'm 19 years old, and i've never had a job.

my friend told me, that since i'm 19 years old, and never had any job experiance i can put down. that most jobs i apply, my application gets pushed aside for not having any job experiance. When i think of this, i guess i can belive it.. i mean if i was manager of a store, i probably wouldnt wanna hire anybody with no experiance.

i applied at 4 about 4 companys online, 2 being radio shack and best buy.
i would rather work at radio shack or best buy because i feel when i go into an electronic store, i'm surounded by things i know.. cameras, tvs computers ect.

I've never get call backs for a job interview or anything.
What should i do? is never being employed hurting my chances at my age?

you just need to start small. Fast food, amusement parks, things that require little training whatsoever.

Call them or go into the store and talk to them.
Online applications suck.

Online applications are pretty much a hit or miss. If you don't fit the criteria they have set out, then your application hits the trash can. It makes it easier for companies to find the decent people and weed out the hopeless.

Stick to places that make you write out an application, and speak to the manger. You want to make a good impression on him first.

Online applications will get you nowhere. That's your first mistake.

Second, electronics stores like Best Buy and Radioshack require extensive knowledge of the products being sold, such as how they work, what products suit similar purposes etc. It requires a training period (Radioshacks is four months, I tried applying there for the summer but no dice) before you can even start working. Chances are if you haven't had a position in the field (ie another electronics store) you won't get hired.

The key is to go around all your friends and have them ask around at their work places if anyone is thinking of leaving within the next couple weeks. If someone is, get ontop of it... go to the job and say you are interested in replacing the person when they leave. That's how I got hired at a SICK restaurant job.

Another way is to look in the papers for wanted ads... do the jobs you think will have less competition to increase your chances of getting a call.

That's a really tough position, can't get a job because of no experience; can't get experience because can't get a job.

When you apply at these places, are you looking for sales positions, or stock boy?  You probably can't get a sales job to start.
Don't hesitate to all them back after you submit you application.  If they reject you, ask why and convey your strengths.  Then apply again and again.

Have you ever had ANY job?  Paperboy, babysitting, window washing?  What kinds of things have you done in school?  Clubs, organizations, sports?   Think about what kind of knowledge and skills you've developed at these and how they would make you a good candidate for a position.  Anyone who has played sports knows about team work and hard work, etc.

Also, it's better to take any job at all, than to wait until you have a job you like.  ONce you're employed anywhere, you'll find it easier to get a new job.  And if nothing comes up, become self-employed.  Start a window washing business, either for homes or businesses, especially for businesses where you might fall into a job you like.

Yeah man, definitely apply around because if you're applying to work at best buy, you'll also have people from high school competing in large numbers. If you want to get a call back, then you have you persuade your manager in your favor; having character helps with that.

Well. i've never had any job..  and it seems everywhere i go and 'ask for apllications' they ALL TELL ME "you have to go to the website and fill it out there" so most places require the online thing. i hate that. i would rather go in, in person, and meet the manager and ask for an application but no dice..

People have asked me "how come you've never had a job" blah blah.. i run and opperate my own recording studio, i record bands, and musicians.. but i cant put that on my resume or anything because i'm my own boss and whatever. but at times the money isnt consistent, which is why i'm looking for a job.

i chose radio shack as a job, because i do know about things like laptops, cameras, and other electronic so thats a no briner for me.
