The Catholic church isn't the only church that has ministers that "diddle with children." The only reason why it seems like it's such a big deal is because the Catholic church holds high standards for it's priests. OP: There are different orders of priesthood and depending on which sect the priest is in, depends on what kind of rules there are. Some have made vows of poverty, which means that all of their earnings (if any) goes straight back to the church and they only have things that they absolutely need to live.
Celibacy is a rather extreme view, as no one can really disagree with that. In order to practice celibacy, you would have to be a rather controlled individual. And a very focused one as well. The bible does not necessary demand for everyone to be married and to have sex in order to have kids.
