What the hell is wrong with me that I can't get called back

The two jobs I had, I was hired on the spot, after a quick conversation with the manager and enthusiastic handshakes and smiles. I'm not socially awkward at all, I think I have a magnetic presence and I make quite an impression in person.
But whenever I drop off applications I never get called back for an interview, EVER. I'm an excellent speller, I have good handwriting, and for the entry-level jobs I'm applying to experience shouldn't really be an issue.
What times are hiring managers normally in? When I call in a place to "check up on the status of my application," what exactly should I say? I once asked for when the hiring manager would be in when I applied at a movie theater and the girl FREAKED OUT and was like "I CAN'T GIVE YOU THAT"
Sorry, hunny, but that seems to be the only way I can get the job

they should be able to tell you when the hiring manager is there. i can't tell you when they would be there, because they're all there at different times on different days. i'd walk in in person and ask instead of calling.

I actually don't think they're supposed to tell anyone when someone is going to be at work but idk why she freaked out lol.
and idk what to say when you call, i've only had one job and i got hired without an application because it's my grandma's restaurant.

Maybe you should go there physically to show your continued interest in the job.

When people apply for a job where I work, I know we look for determined people who show an avid interest in the job at hand. Even if it is like your millionth choice you should always follow through.
