Here's one that occurred to me in class today while my teacher was talking about solutions to modern race relation issues.

Did slaves in the antebellum south who disobeyed or actively resisted their masters sin in doing so (e.g. participants in the underground railroad or slave uprisings)?

-----------------------------------------------------
Main question above/supplementary material below
-----------------------------------------------------

For those who aren't sure how a question like this could even arise, consider Ephesians 6:5-6...

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.

...Colossians 3:22-25...

22Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism.

...1 Timothy 6:1...

All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God's name and our teaching may not be slandered.

...Titus 2:9-10...

Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.

...and especially 1 Peter 2:18-21

Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

No, because New Testament scripture routinely states that we are to submit before the established authority and be willing to die for the core of our beliefs.  However, in the book Philemon, Paul sent a previously escaped slave back to his master not to resume his duties as a First-Century slave, but as an equal brother-in-Christ.

I'm not a Christian, but I'll say no they didn't.

No they didn't sin by your standard or no their behavior wasn't what Christianity would label a sin?

In the Christian sense they did sin. Which is why the bible is so sick.

Christians don't allow god to be able to sin.

You're being inconsistent within yourself.  You admit that the slaves should have submitted, but that they didn't sin because Paul once strongly suggested to a Christian brother that he accept his runaway back as more than a slave.  How do you reconcile what you have presented as being inconsistent?

That's actually a better argument for them sinning than for them not sinning.  Notice that God required Pharaoh to free the slaves before he would have them led out.
