Yes, but at the same time there were plenty of other supposed messiahs or whatever and some even supposedly came back to life, jesus just happened to win out.

Actually, I think most of the other folks people called "messiahs" were just prophets. No one fit the bill 100% until Jesus showed up.

We've had plenty of false messiahs and prophets since then - makes it easy for the doubters to throw stones...
