 Actually 99% of people in prison or jail were spanked as children. 25% of spanked children turn out abusive while only 5% of non spanked children do. It has also been proven through more studies that kids who are spanked often have more behavioral issues, and are more violent .

I was spanked as a child, I'm very well behaved, I never acted out, I didn't really cry and whine in public like babies seem to do, I get excellent grades.
The kids that I know who act out weren't spanked.
Those numbers are a bit extreme I'd say. and considering all my aunts and uncles were spanked, and spanked their kids, 3-8 of my cousins have been abused.

And my kids will be a lot better behaved then yours.

I can say the opposite. Everyone I have ever known to have been spanked has turned out about 10x worse than me and my siblings did and we have never been spanked. I am a 4.0 straight A student who does Volunteer work every week, I am respectful to my parents and everyone else around me, my siblings have all been to college and have great jobs, they and I have never done drugs or went out partying. Spanking isnt needed , it is just for the lazy frustrated parent who doesnt want to put the effort into actually raising a child and would rather smack them, or hit them into submission.

Okay(according to firefox that should be tokay), straight A's 4.4 GPA, working on Eagle scout project, volunteer at 4-h camp, rescue mission etc, been asked if I was in college because I was mature (before the beard). Know a guy and his sister, they were spanked and his sister is at harvard, and he'll end up there or Stanford or any school he wants really, I could go on about children who have been spanked. Then the worst behaved kids who talk back to the teachers and such, no spanking. I imagine if we put back in corporal punishment that there would be fewer discipline issues.

Plenty of successful people have been spanked. My guess is it probably doesn't actually make a difference whether a kid is spanked or not.

So what you will stop spanking at age 5 when a child can be reasoned with? At what age do you believe a child can be reasoned with? Just an FYI to you but time outs have been proven more effective than spanking and are less harmful. They do work if used consistently and correctly. Your dad obviously didnt do it right. Putting effort into your children would mean you would actually work with them instead of hitting them to get a desired behavior
