ALL domain providers such as GoDaddy register there domains via a registratar. Ussually eNom and Nominet.

When you login to GoDaddy they have there own interface with there own logo, but it is exactly the same as the interface on eNom and Nominent.

Wherever you register the domain you will have access to the acctuall registrars control panel for your domain. In many cases you just have to ask for the details!

There, happy?

Get them separately. Hosting companies tend to make managing your domain name a hassle (there are notable exceptions), but domain registrars have no such obligations.

what are the hassles you speak of? and what are some domain registrars?

He was speaking from his lack of knowledge and experience. If you have no idea about how these things work it makes much more sense to go to somewhere that provides it all in one.

Too many possible problems.

Might as well get Godaddy domain + hosting or Namecheap domain + hosting or Yahoo domain + hosting

I guess I must be really unlucky with my hosts then - only one has provided me with full domain access. That's not a lack of experience, that's a bad experience.

If they dont give it to you then you ask what registrar it is. If its not eNom or Nominet then there a pretty naff place to start with! If it is either of those you ask for the details for the control panel on there websites as you did pay for the website.

Most insisted on managing via emailing them. I even ended up having to let one domain expire when migrating hosts once, after four months of bouncing back emails from one to the other telling me to email the other.

If you have to email them then that means they are most likley using a control panel like eNom's or Nominets but are too lazy or have the lack of money to provide you with one on there website! Id certianly stay clear if they cant even provide a control panel for yourself

I have done in the end. I use a separate registration service since I've moved on to VPS' and then dedi's. Saves the hassle and risk of repeated occurance.

Ive used all of those and they all work fantastically. No problems with any of them. I know the first uses Nominet, the second eNom, the third im not sure...

But i would recommend any of those! Big companies are crap, offer little support to you, and can be quite slow.
