I think it's supposed to be coed in the campus halls but same sex in the self-catered halls (at Nottingham).

When I lived in a dorm, it was coed. I was in the suite style dorms(like 4 rooms share one bathroom and one living room). Each suite was one gender, but the floors were mixed. Most dorms were mixed. They had an all girl building and all guy building if you wanted that. They even had a floor for GLBT students if you felt more comfortable living in that setting. Now, I know the older dorms have male floors, and female floors. I kinda think that's weird.
That's how it works at my dorm... female/male designated floors
