I gauged my ears out to zero. And they have been getting really crusty and gross so im going to take them out. What is the best way to get them back to normal? I havnt had them very long. They have been zeros for maybe six months.

Will it Shrink Back?
In the event that you stretch your piercing and then decide that you don't like it anymore, the odds are not in your favor that it will shrink back to normal size. When you stretch a piercing, you need to be sure that you are prepared for it to be permanent. However, there is always a chance that it could go back to normal size, but it depends on a few different factors:

   * Size of Stretch - The larger you go, the less likely it will go back to its original size. Generally, 2 gauge has been coined "the point of no return," meaning that once you have stretched that far, it's not going to go back.
   * Length of Stretch Time - If your piercing has been stretched for a couple of years or more, it's pretty well set and probably isn't going to shrink back.
   * How It Was Stretched - If the piercing was stretched too quickly, especially if there was an resulting scar tissue, it probably won't revert very easily. If it was done with a scalpel or dermal punch, it definitely will not shrink.

I don't know if that helped.

Yes thank you that was helpful. Do you have any idea if you have to guage them back down with the earings? Or just take them out and let them go?

1) I've seen people do it both ways, successfully.

2) 2 is not the point of no return. There is no such thing as that below stretching to the point that your lobe goes beyond your cartilage.

3) It's stretching, not 'guaging'.

I dont think its safe to put scar creams in the ear. It could possibly damage them.

But I think it would be best to just size down. maybe take them out for a couple of weeks?

I am looking to stretch. I want to go to a 4.

The point of no return is just a myth it is based on a "average". Everyone is different and also depends if you correctly stretched your ears or not. I can't tell you they will close because they may not, but I know someone who had stretched to 1/2 inch and they have a normal size hole now without the need for corrective surgery.
