Rereading Genesis, I came across what I think is a thought-proking prophecy regarding Ishmael and his descendents (Arabs by the Muslims' own reckoning).  Genesis 16:12

He will be a wild donkey of a man, his hand will be against everyone, and everyone's hand will be against him; and he will live to the east of all his brothers.

Hmmm...

Told from the perspective of a Christian, how much validity can be placed behind this?

It's no secret that there has been a long history of tension between Muslims and Christians, and from a Christians perspective that prophecy does seem pretty accurate.  But that's not necessarily how the whole world sees Muslims, and doesnt mean the prophecy is necessarily true.

IMO.

People always seem to have trouble with Muslims though. The Chinese even built a freaking anti-air battery near the Olympic stadium and guarded it with 100,000 soldiers to, according to them, discourage an attack by the Muslims in the south. Now that's probably not the only reason they did it, but I don't think they were lying about it.

It's difficult to find a country that has a small but significant Muslim population and hasn't had unusual problems with them. Mostly because a lot of them have it in their heads that Allah wants them to blow up everyone else.

This...in fact no passage in Scripture can be explained on the basis of a preexisting tension between Christians and Muslims.  This particular text predates both Christianity and Islam by even the most liberal scholarly estimates.  It stands apart from any subsequent history.

I think he's saying that the prophecy seems true from a Christian perspective today, but hey, what the hell do I know?

Oh...well that's not quite so silly an argument.

It's too vague, bit of a small mention for someone that will end up founding a religion with over a billion followers and leading so many people astray.

Correction: People always seem to be having trouble with Muslim extremists.  I have to strongly disagree with your second statement and say that the United States has no problem at all with their Muslim population, no more so than any other racial, ethnic or religious group.  People see extremists perpetrating violent acts in the name of Islam, but in reality these people are following the faith no differently than people who are violent in the name of Christianity.
It is unfortunate that this seems to be a more common trend in Islam right now than it is in Christianity, however that by no means that all Muslims "have it in their heads that Allah wants them to blow everyone up".  If you were to read the Quran, it would be quite clear that that is not Allah's message.  If anything, they misinterpret that from the teachings and actions of Mohammad.

See InsaneBlue's statement....

I'm sure I phrased it poorly.

What is the insinuation behind "wild donkey of a man"? What would a wild donkey of a man be like?
