They perform a rape kit if it has been within the last 24-48 hours (I think), take down any information, and investigate it.

Well you would call the police and give them all the information you know about the rapist. Then they will put out a search for him and when he is found you'd both have to get taken to court to explain what happened, if they find him guily he'd get put in jail.
