Well you would call the police and give them all the information you know about the rapist. Then they will put out a search for him and when he is found you'd both have to get taken to court to explain what happened, if they find him guily he'd get put in jail.

They get put in jail depending on age and whether they catch the person.

There's usually a trial, and it depends on the evidence. Whether there's evidence of non-consensual sex on the vagina, semen sample in the uterus, evidence around the crime scene, etc.

The police try to look for a DNA match in the criminal database if they find a usable sample perhaps from a pubic hair or if semen was found in the vagina. They look for potential suspects who might have been around that area or who might have done this, perhaps they find a match from a DNA sample or if the person who was raped might be able to describe the face of the person for facial identification.

They then build a case and prosecute the witness if they think they have enough evidence. If you can identify the witness you also might have to testify in court.

It's quite complicated and even my recounts are oversimplified.

The jury will deliberate once the evidence has been presented and a witness (if any) may be cross-examined by the defense. They come up with a verdict whether guilty or not, and then the judge sentences the person.

If you get raped, they'll take samples from your vagina and mouth. They'll try to find as much semen and hair as possible, and look to see if your uterus and cervix have been injured in any way. Then they'll get you a therapist to talk about what's happened. Sometimes they bring you back for an update, so you can explain your story, and ask if you know the man. If you know who raped you, they'll do DNA tests to match. However, if you don't know, they'll usually search rapists who have been released from prison and live close by.

But I don't wanna tell anyone. I know it means he's still out there & other people are in danger but I can't bring myself to tell my mum & I don't know how to go to the police myself, well I do, I just don't want to.
