I got an A* in art GCSE and I love it.
I actually have a talent in it.
I'm also academic too- I got all A*'s-B's in GCSE's and i'm a hard worker.

My ideal job is law- and i'd like to go to a top uni- maybe not oxford or cambridge.

I'm taking 3 good solid academic as levels but as a 4th, i'd love to take art.
I don't want this to be held against me though- i know it's considered a soft a level.

Would universities not consider me if I was to take art?
any advice?

I don't think they'd oppose it at all. One of the people in my year took art at A-Level and she got a place at Cambridge to do some sort of science based course. As long as you have 3 good solid a-levels next to them I see no reason why they'd hold it against you really.

It's better to do the A-Level you want and get a good grade in it than do something else just because of the type of A-Level and get a mediocre grade in that.

take art but you have a better chance of getting in if you have a language (not english)

and GCSE's are a General Certificate of Education proving we are quillified in seleted subjects basically the same as something you get when you leave school
