It is all very confusing. I dont really understand it well either. It seems...silly.

:sits back for some UKer to jump to their school system's defense:

come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk without money and
without cost.-Isaiah 55:1

We can leave school at 16.. ( in year 11 )

then it's optional that we can stay on school (sixth form) or go to college or get a job etc

which is normally 16-18

then we can go to university or get a job or stay at college and do something there

-We start primary school when we are 4 or 5.
-We then go on to secondary school when we are 11 or 12.
-At 16 most leave school to go to college or can stay in school and attend a sixth form.
-Most leave college at 18 and go to university where you get a degree.

College is like pre-university.

College is free. You can go there to study A Levels which are a qualification that you need to get into most universities. Or you can study something a little more vocational (like catering, carpentry, hairdressing etc) which will prepare you straight for work.

You would then go to university (which you pay for) to study for a degree.
