The biggest thing that McCain's time in the military has given him as far as qualifications to be president is executive experience, as he had to run large organizations under his command.

Minus the military, plus social servies?

  Bah. Why help society?

What you mean to say is that Obama would just put more of our military in Afghanistan and more than likely attack Pakistan while we still had troops in Iraq?

I was thinking American society. But then again, who cares about those in need at home.

When I mean social servies, I meant American social services. Slash the military fund, bolster funds for society.

Because our military isn't already stretched to the breaking point, and is severly underfunded?

Have fun not having a clue as to why food prices went up.

Do you know why the dollar will stop inflating?  I sure don't.  We need our economy to start up so we can beat the inflation.  People need money to be worth something in order for this to happen.  But the banks are already fucked.  Why would they raise interest rates?  And we're STILL doing this war crap and paying for it with money that stopped existing trillions of dollars ago.  It just seems convenient to swipe the money out of our savings accounts by inflating into oblivion.

Please correct me if I have this wrong.

I guess that explains why the dollar has been going up recently.

It is also pretty telling that you never did point out why the price of food has gone up.  The largest contributor to the price of food going up is the ethanol subsidy, and the fact that much of our food crops are being turned into ethanol.  Combine a subsidy with taking supply out of the food market, and it is no wonder why the food we eat costs so much now.

McCain has war experience, which is a + to me, and not some gay ass "I shot myself in the foot and got a purple heart" bullshit, he is literally a war hero.

I still say Ron Paul though.

McCain crashed five jet planes. How does that constitute a war hero? I call that an idiot.

Being shot down isn't exactly crashing a plane.

That's just lack of skill with flying a plane. That doesn't necessarily make him bad at wars in general. Why would we need somebody who can fly planes to be our president?

I would also like to point out the Vietnamese offered to have him released and he refused unless everyone before him was as well, leading to his extended torture.

That's military protocol. He was doing his duties; that doesn't constitute heroism.

True heroes burned their draft cards.

War experience means nothing in relation to social, economic, or even foreign policy. It means you can kill people, and in the case of Vietnam - killing people who just wanted independence from American hegemony. Being a victim of torture makes me skeptical about one's mental state. I had an uncle who served in Vietnam and he isn't mentally fit just from war experiences alone. I can only imagine the little thoughts playing out in McCain's head.

54% of American taxes go to the Military. Over 1.4 billion dollars. Slash it in half and stop flexing the American muscle, and the military wouldn't be underunded, because it wouldnt be in so much need, and the American people would have a hell of a lot more help at home. Send your money to the middle east, or spend it on yourself. Well the amount going to the middle east is already growing with oil prices, so why not send some of that money back home?

because obama is a change-whore and mccain isn't. i like america the way it is

ya know, its a fact that 90% of our country's citizens do not like how our country is right now. that means only 10% of people do...and your one of them...wow i cant believe that i know someone who actually likes Bush's policies 0_0 thats AMAZING

i loved they way bush's policies helped us. my family was just fine and even the better for it

If every person voted according to their financial and social situation as compared to before Bush's administration, McCain would be fucked straight back into his first wife's soiled bedsheets.

I don't even support Obama, but I'm still floored at the prospect of people touting the Republican line. No matter. It looks like even Texas and Virginia are "battleground" states this time around.

The dollar has been going up because China and Japan are suppressing the values of their currencies to make the US bonds they hold more valuable. This can't go on forever. Our currency still isn't doing very well.

But no, I didn't know that about the food prices.

Too bad Bush isn't running in 2008, and McCain has a pretty long history of pushing for slashed spending.

Was that before or after he was against Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy and well-to-do?

McCain is just another shill for corporations; Obama, too (that's plainly obvious), but if there's going to be lopsided tax cuts it's better to have them on the bottom than the top. It increases demand's ability to purchase and save.

My mistake, mixed 2 thigns up.

550 billion dollars a year. Almost 10% of all taxes(I was previously looking at only one form of tax) My point stands. There is no need for the US to force themselves all over the world, therefore no need for 550 billion dollars to be spent on it, when the homeland has MANY areas that need improvement that could use JUST half that money.

Kind of hard to give tax cuts to those who don't really pay much in taxes.

550 billion is more than 10%. That also doesn't take into account discretionary spending, which is either focused on corporate subsidization or military campaigns.

The US needs to figure out a way to slash its non-discretionary spending, and eliminate spending on things that aren't contained within Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution.
