The Decemberists are an indie band from Portland, Oregon, and one of my favorite bands of all time. If you've never heard of them, look them up. They are quite unique in the fact that they can describe the most gruesome, violent, explicit things you can imagine in their songs without using a single expletive. Instead, they send you to the dictionary wondering what the hell they just sang about.

Here's just a list of some words that they use in their songs that might possibly be useful to you someday, if only to brag about how large your vocabulary is.

Blithe- happy, cheerful, and carefree

Cull- to remove an inferior person or thing from a group

Cupola- a roof or ceiling in the form of a dome

Debonair- looking well-dressed, sophisticated, and at ease

Dolor- intense sadness

Drub- to defeat an opponent comprehensively

Fecundity- the ability to produce many different and original ideas

Folderol- an attractive but valueless object or trinket

Largesse- the generous giving of gifts, money, or favors

Laudanum- a solution of opium in alcohol. Use: formerly, for pain relief.

Lithe- able to move or bend the body lightly and gracefully

Moribund- in the process of becoming obsolete

Odalisque- an enslaved woman or concubine, especially, formerly, in a Turkish harem

Palanquin- a covered seat carried on poles

Paragon- somebody or something that is the very best example of something

Parallax- an apparent change in the position of an object when the person looking at the object changes position

Phalanx- a group of people, animals, or objects that are moving or standing closely together

Reprieve- to halt or delay the punishment of somebody, especially when the punishment is death

Roustabout- an unskilled laborer, especially on an oil-drilling rig, on a ship or wharf, or in a circus

Wanton- lacking restraint or inhibition, especially in sexual behaviour (slutty)

Simple words, but it is cool they replace  the typical bad words with those.
