I swear they must be in denial.

I swear that both my mum and nan must be in denial when it comes to my brother and his behaviour. [He's 14, and I'm 18]. They always put him first because he is the boy, and if you like, the 'man' of the family because we don't live with my dad anymore. Which is a shame, as I think my brother needs discipline, and having those airheads around isn't helping.

They just spoil him rotten - give him everything he wants, let him talk to me like shit when I spend all day clearing up after him (this is another thing, he isn't made to do housework, and so doesn't bother doing anything). He's also started speaking to them like crap too, calling my mum a 'bitch' and a 'slut' when mother very occasionally says ''no'' to him. He also sucks up to my nan in order to get money, and keeps everyone awake until 2am in the morning because he is still on the computer typing away. But because it's him, and he is regarded as some kind of prince, then he can do no wrong.

Today has been the last straw. I was in the kitchen, and he just came up to me and hit me for no reason. I hit him back, and then instead of my mum breaking it up, she just looked at her boyfriend Phil who came to visit us today, and said: ''This is what I have to put up with all the time''. It's just so pathetic, as she made him that way.

I'll be moving out on September 13th, and plan on never coming back. When I mentioned this, mother was like: ''Well, I think you're very selfish!''. Screw them all.

I think this post was just to rant about stuff because I haven't got anyone I can talk to about these things. Thanks for listening LW.

You know what? I've been used as the family doormat too, and I'd say that moving out is the best thing you can do. Get space from them, learn your identity, grow your confidence. You're heading in the right direction.

When you feel confident enough to face them again, hopefully your mum and nan will have the wisdom to change the way they relate to you. But never let them scapegoat you if you can help it.

Good luck in the move! I work for a small family business who do the clerical side of house-moves, so if you ever want a bit of advice, just drop me a line.

How is your moving selfish?  I can't understand her thinking.  Unless she's dependent on you to do chores or something.

Ugh, kids these days are lacking in discipline.  I know this one fourteen-year-old who throws tantrums, falls onto the floor kicking and screaming when she can't have her way!  Thus, her mother gives her the same rights as her eighteen-year-old sister, which isn't fair, as the younger one didn't do anything to deserve the same rights, and the eldest should have more rights to begin with.  Then the mother complains about the child...well, she spoiled her, that's how it was going to end up!

It's great you won't have to deal with that anymore soon.  I'd be going crazy!
