A little Novice/Grasshopper made the topic originally but I wanted intelligent answers so I thought I would post it here.

Why do things happen?

I think that the best answer is "Because there is a chain or sequence of events that causes something to happen, like the butterfly effect."

What about you?

Things happen because energy causes matter to move throughout a phenomenon called time.

It really does depend on what sort of perspective you're looking at the question from.

The answer above mine (energy exerting itself) is from the point of view of physics. Other aspects to consider range anywhere from human motive where applicable to random luck to (those who believe in Intelligent Design) the will of a God-figure. Hundreds of reasons why things do happen, really -- all of them from various pinnacles of perception.

We live in a mathematical world. Probabality is what everything relies on. That is HOW things happen.

Why do things happen?
Well, they have to. Can you imagine nothing happening?no.

Everything happens because something else happened.  Everything is a cause, and everything is an effect.  It all goes back to one cause.  Some may call it the Big Bang, some may say it was God, we'll probably never know.

It is a poor awnser, seeing as it logic is contradictory.

if one thing does not require a cause, why do we assert that everything else must have a cause?

It think the best awnser would be something like "we don't know, nor will we probably ever know, just  like everything else."

Your hungry --> You eat --> You go to the toilet
Your sleepy --> You go to bed -->  You are re-energized
Your horny --> You have sex --> You have a baby

There is always a cause and effect...

Not really anyway. The Big Bang theory doesn't say anything about what caused it because, well, it doesn't need to. Theories don't try to explain everything, just what evidence is available and pertinent. Asking the Big Bang (and Evolution) to do more than this is a double standard. After all, the theory of Gravity doesn't explain where mass came from. The Germ theory of disease transmission doesn't explain where germs came from. Electro-magnetic theories don't explain where charge comes from. Atomic theory doesn't state where atoms come from.

Every cause creates an event which is the cause of the next event. When you have billions if not infinite number of causea nd infinite number of events, then you have an infinite number of things happening and *head blows up*

Factor in time, and things happen . .  As long as there is a thing, something must happen to that thing even if nothing seemed to happen, because nothing happening is something happening . . . That's how I'd say ot in a kindy rofl . . .

Eat>sleep>grow up>make baby>eat>sleep> make another baby
                           baby: eat>sleep>grow up>
                                                              baby: eat>sleep> growup

God. . . . what have you done, were nothing but baby making machines. . .
