Way to disregard a viewpoint you don't like by making it seem like it can be explained away.  There is such a thing as an intellectual opposition to homosexuality.  The view that homosexuality is aberrant sexual behavior is one that can be reached and has been reached by many through deep thought and logical reasoning.

You may not agree with that reasoning, and you are entitled, but pretending that all opposition/discrimination against homosexuals is experientially based it a little like pretend your opponent isn't there in the hopes that he'll go away.

There is a difference between homophobia and an aversion to homosexuality.

I am not afraid of homoesexuals, nor do I seek them out and beat on them with glass bottles or blow up gay bars, but I do think active homosexuality is wrong.

That does not make me a homophobe.

Actually...dictionary.com and meriamwebster.com both disagree with you citing aversion to or antipathy toward homosexuals in the definition of homophobia.

well that is because the dictionary and the rest of the world is controlled by a liberal tolerance promoting culture.

Sometimes it's insecurity. Sometimes it's how a person was raised. It's the classic "Nature vs. Nurture" argument. Why do some people turn out gay and some people turn out straight? No one knows.

However, if gayness is something that can be genetic, why not homophobia?

I disagree. I think it's always about insecurity, whether it's because you've been raised in a world where everyone's always been straight and are suddenly exposed to it, or if you've been taught in church that it's wrong and totally sinful and see that some of the nicest and most caring people you meet are anything other than straight. The homophobes are uncomfortable with the idea of something being other than they think it should be, and react extremely to it, mentally or physically (or sometimes emotionally; I've seen it, and it's downright weird). And I am talking about the real homophobia, not the moderate stance of disagreement with it. These people are just disturbed that someone can be different from them in unexpected, peaceful ways, and that's cracked thinking, and that's why it's just stupid.

Well, what if I just think that 2 guys getting it on is completely disgusting, so I don't want to be around that, or even a gay guy that might be "checking me out" and imagining it. *shivers down my spine* blegh

That doesn't really fit into you're catagories..

Umm...

unreasoning fear of or antipathy toward homosexuals and homosexuality.

You say homophobia can be reached through reason right?

The Bible, also poses a cause for the homophobia.
A misinterpretation of a few paragraphs leading to much pain and fear.
