it's really easy to make freinds the first week or so no one knows each other so that makes it really easy to say hi

I don't know, it depends... I wanted/want a single so that I could have some amount of privacy at college but was also afraid that if I got it, I'd never leave it and would finish out the rest of my college career alone. I guess you could give the single a try and then ask for a roommate later if you don't like it. You never know, there might be openings even later on in the semester/quarter.

Singles are great, I have a single this year once again (I attend boarding school, third year) And I have had a single each year and I enjoy it more than sharing. Most due to the fact that I have the same space as a double but not another person messing it up and taking my shit.

Plus you won't have any roommate issues to report!
Look on the bright side, leave your door open when your in there, make it look nice, get some good sounds rolling, and maybe hang out and introduce yourself to people.

i really liked having a roommate at boarding school, we had a small room sophomore year but we made it work and we never had any issues, i missed her a ton when i had my single junior year when i was an ra, we even petitioned to make it so that ra's could have roommates our senior year so we could room together when she was an ra. it was awesome. i guess i'm just nervous because i was so lonely my junior year in my single.

and i feel bad because i feel like there are probably kids out ther who wanted a single but didn't get one.

If you don't want one, why do you have one? Don't you generally have to ask for those?

yeah usually you do. i put it down as my last choice, i asked for a double then a quad then a triple and a 6 person suite above all of those and a single as last. but they gave me one anyway.

i just got a single room for college next year too, im about to be a sophmore though. i hated having a roommate, he was such a nerd he would play video games all day. at least he left on weekends though to see his girl. anyway, single room is great because u have privacy and u can concentrate on ur work. plus living in dorm, u will be around a ton of other people, so it doesnt matter

in england, having your own room is the norm. we don't seem to be having many problems!

if you're on a corridor; just leave your door open, invite people in for cups of tea!

Singles are fine.

Just keep your door open on the first day and play loud music, and you'll be good. People will come see what's going on, and then you can chat.

Make sure the door being opened is allowed. If we leave ours open, we get a 50$ fine. And loud music? Bad. Fine, there, too.

Singles, are, repeated, fine. You'll find friends, on the same floor. Just be as sociable as you would with any other room type.

You don't have to have your door open to invite strangers up. You meet people via hallways, classes, dorm meetings.

In this day and age, it's not safe to leave your door open.
