I recently got hired at PacSun, and I love it there, but I don't have enough hours (only 8 a week)...And my mom said that I have to get another job because she wants me working more than 20 hours a week.

So...I have to find another place to work that'll give me at least 13 hours a week, and, since I work at PacSun, it can't really be another clothing store because that creates a conflict of interest.

I applied to Best Buy, a drugstore near my house, and I'm not sure where else to look...Are places like Hallmark and Gertrude Hawk OK?

Also, I have to talk to my manager about getting fixed hours so that I can have another job. How do I go about that without making her upset about me seeking other employment?

There aren't more hours available. When I did the interview it was made very clear that there were only 8 and 12 hours a week available. I got 8.

I don't think another clothing store is a conflict of interest.
If you're only part-time, they certainly don't have any clauses that would prevent you from getting another job in the industry.

Can't you just say that you need to get another job as you need more money? I'm sure she will understand... perhaps make sure that you say that it isn't because you don't like working there and that you don't want to leave your current job. You could try asking her if there are any rules about where you can have a second job...

I talked to my manager today.

She said that she'll see how many more hours she can give me, it just depends on how many there are left to give out because all the sales associates need to have equal numbers of hours. She also said that she completely understands if I need to find a second job.

I face the same problem you are in. But dealing with school and two jobs is easier said than done. And a lot of places are looking for people to work whenever they want and dont work with you if you have another job. At least thats my experience. I do GPT sites to earn some extra money. Its not a lot but it helps when I need the extra money.

See, it's my mom that's the problem...She says I have to work at least 20 hours a week. And my manager at Pac Sun is really understanding, and the woman from Best Buy who called seemed to be also.
