I enjoyed The Book: The Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are by Alan Watts. Brilliant philosopher, very tongue-in-cheek too.

Or (better by far than that but less fun and harder to read) The Structure of Scientific Revolutions by Kuhn

Well you apparently don't need anymore with Beyond Good and Evil on the list (kidding).  That is one of my all time favorite books; I've read it way too many times.

The ones I've enjoyed the most would be Kant, Nietzsche, Hume, Voltaire, Wittgenstein, and Bertrand Russell.  Sartre wasn't bad or anything, but didn't enjoy him as much.

As far as pro-religious philosophy, I'd go with Schaeffer or Van Til as I enjoyed both of them.  Lewis gets a thumbs down from me, although many Christians seem to enjoy him the most.  Schaeffer, by far, was one of the most enjoyable Christian philosophers I've read - especially How Should We Then Live as he covers a lot of philosophic issues.  I am not familiar with many Muslim philosophers as I'm not in an area with much of it, but "any day now I'll try to find one."

On the Eastern side of things, I've always enjoyed Ghandi and Confucius, but study more concepts than actual specific philosophers which is a weakness of mine I should work on.

As far as people that I think which have a lot of philosophic depth, though they may not be considered "philosophers" by many would be Adam Smith (a moral philosopher), Karl Marx, Emile Durkheim (used frequently in sociology), George Mead (sociology also), Max Weber (popular in sociology), and anything by Hitler or Göring.

"Think" by Simon Blackburn is an excellent overview of major philosophical issues.

Hahaha you quoted yourself. =/  I'd check that out. I wrote it down. :) thanks!

I demand attention at all times, if quoting myself if how I have to get it then so be it.

and good! read it! it's ace! it's not just snobby name-dropping, it's a proper introduction to major ideas of philosophy.

my boyfriend wrote about it in his personal statement, then bricked himself when he realised simon blackburn might be one of the dons interviewing him about his personal statement..

I also really enjoyed The Prophet by Khalil Gibran. It's horribly innocent, but that's why it's so good.

I got the Kant book that somebody mentioned and a basic one about Philosophy. Once those are over I'll get more. :)

hegel's 'the philosophy of history'

he basically talks about how its the duty of european nations to pull up undeveloped nations because they're too busy surviving in extreme geographic conditions to do anything useful.

also happiness sucks because it doesn't lead to progress, also all slaughter throughout history is necessary in order to lead to the full manifestation of reason in the world

he's cranky as hell it kicks ass A++++++ recommendation

Or if your feeling particularly frisky you could go for The Myth of Sisyphus by Camus. Thats a good read as well.
