It's good and bad. It's good that people are finding their culture important to keep, especially since it's a known issue that the American identity is disappearing. What is bad is when these groups try to stay separate and isolate themselves. My friend works at a hotel and she said that they offer free ESL to the immigrant workers but they refuse it.
What exactly is "American Identity"?
America does have a culture, too. To me, it seems like America is the only country facing that issue. I can't name any other country that is having issues with people not learning their language, and ignoring the native culture.
Maybe its because we dont have a native culture or language? We took this land over, remember?

England has the same problem, for one. And what is America's native culture? Obesity? Widespread ignorance? Do you mean they should forget their culture and country and act like white people?
America is a fairly new country, so the culture is less defined. But yes, if you push away all the political and racism issues, there is a culture. There are foods in America, that are not typically eaten elsewhere. Clothes in America, that are not typically worn elsewhere. Hell, there's an American attitude, with good aspects and bad. And we speak English. I would never go to, say, Japan and refuse to learn Japanese.

We have no official culture or language. Thats why America is nicknamed the 'melting pot'. Our culture is a mix of all cultures, so in a way, you are right. We are diverting away from our culture by trying to create our own

They don't need to dress, eat, or act like Americans to be American. The only thing they should do is learn English. Again, by what you described, you expect them to forget their native culture and act like Americans.

I duno But in England its not that bad in my area, everyone gets along and mixes (to an extent) But in some it causes alot of tension and a certain immigrant group takes over an area, which is annoying. as this is england after all, not somalia

The thing with America is it's a land of immigrants. English is the country's language but people can make a pretty legit claim that they don't need to learn it, and I don't think that's good. I think communication is important and by all means, keep your native tongue too. I don't like when people move to the US, live as an American but behave as if they're in their native country. That's more like...how Americans act when they travel overseas. America does have culture, true. But a part of its culture is influenced by outside cultures. There isn't any root culture, really. If there is, it's not the same as other countries with rich, long histories like those in Europe, Asia, Middle East, etc. We're babies and we're still trying to find ourselves.
