Im sure this has crossed some of your minds before, but Im going to go ahead and say it anyway. I mean, its not like most of the R&P topics are new ideas, anyway....

Why is it that [some] Christians (and other religions, but just bear with me), come on here and say things against evolution, because "where did the universe come from? How could there be a big bang from nothing? It had to start somewhere, therefore it had to be created", etc, when they believe that God has always existed. He was not created.. ?

I mean, really, to each his own beliefs, but why do some of you say that there's no way for the scientific theories to be correct because they fall to the same problem that your "faith" falls to? Sometimes I get the impression that you're saying that since you can call your belief "faith", and our belief silly due to "lack of evidence", yours is better, when both have the same fundamental problem; something existing without creation.

*sighs* I dont get it.

God has always been here yes I know its hard to believe but its true. Why is it hard to believe this but easier to believe that the Earth was created by a big bang and we evolved from monkeys.

That would be how I feel about it sometimes -.- That's why I find it so frustrating; because it is, essentially, the same mystery.

Did you read? It is EXACTLY this logic that Im questioning? Can we not say the two are equally difficult to believe, or equally easy? Why is it that you can say that this is true when you have no way of knowing, just your "faith", but you have the same problem you're pointing out in our beliefs?

we didn't evolve from monkeys.

how is it easier to believe that a baseless assertion, as opposed to something backed up with evidence like the big bang theory?

My understanding is that Christians believe that God is atemporal, he exists outside of the physical realm and therefore the rules you'd apply to whatever's going on on the earth can't necessarily be equally applied to God? that might be bullshit.

I believe the 'big bang' occurred pretty much as science describes and the development of the universe and evolution as well. I just happen to also believe that God is the force driving those occurrences.

You have no idea what kind of respect I have for you, then. I have no problem with people having faith, and believing in God. I have a problem with people thinking that faith in the existence in God automatically means that science (big bang, evolution) is a load of crap. Why cant they go together?

I really don't know. The antagonism between hardcore atheists and similar minded theists apparently is the problem, I guess. I suppose some theists take that to the extreme, if an atheist can believe something then the theist feels he can't, lol.

I appreciate your thinking. I also have no problem with people who don't believe in my God. It does bother me a bit, though, when they call me stupid for having that faith.
