How genuine is righteousness if it can not encounter and overcome temptation? Can we even say that true righteousness can exist if there is no temptation to be defeated?
So God created Satan for him to tempt and therefore test God's followers?

Test seems to be a shitty word for it. We test things when we want to know an answer. If we assume an all-knowing God, though, that seems unsatisfactory. I'd imagine that if I were to have a magical angel tempting my followers, it would be to help them grow as people by providing genuine obstacles to overcome.

Who is to say that God didn't create Satan and man, just as he created the Cheetah and the Zebra. The Zebra has its own natural defences from the Cheetah, their stripes. And man has his own defences, the ability to question what is right and what is wrong. The ability to discern between the two. Sure, some may slip through. But, "Can we have the light without dark, or Heat without Cold."
